Rain fills dams, tanks and hearts – The Age

MELBOURNE received its average rainfall for the month, rainwater run-off is rushing into water storages and thousands of Victorian farmers will not need to water crops for days after much of the state was drenched at the weekend.

Melbourne got 58 millimetres in the 48 hours to 9am yesterday, equal to the long-term average rain for December…..

…. Melbourne Water’s manager of water supply, John Woodland, said the amount of water flowing into the storages would gradually ease.

“The run-off levels from this rain are likely to be closer to what we’d expect, because the catchments were still wet from the soaking they had in late November. These are the kind of back-to-back rain events we missed out on during most of winter and spring, which is why our storages are still at record lows for this time of year,” he said….
