ABC – Bendigo water restrictions ease

Worried about water restrictions in Melbourne going to Stage 4? This is the case for many regional towns in Victoria. Severe draught and a warmer, drier climate than Melbourne have disallowed gardeners in these towns to use water outside. Not due to rain, but due to water reallocation in the over stressed Goulburn catchment, however,  Bendigo and Heathcote have returned to Stage 3 restrictions allowing for residents to water their gardens and grow some extra food plants….

ABC article, Jan 1st, 2009….

Bendigo and Heathcote residents in Victoria have moved to stage three water restrictions.

Coliban Water has eased bans allowing residents to water their gardens for up to eight hours a week.

Bendigo has been on stage four water bans since September 2006 and moved to stage four with a general watering exemption in October 2007.

Coliban Water says there has been an increase in allocations on the Goulburn system that has allowed the easing of some restrictions.

Castlemaine and Kyneton remain on stage four general exemption restrictions.
