vi. PERMACULTURE AND ORGANIC NETWORKS

Many gardens discovered in this research were run on permacultural and organic principles. Permaculture was regularly cited by respondents as playing a significant role in developing sustainable, self-sufficient gardening in the community.

In Melbourne, Permaculture Melbourne is an umbrella organisation for local groups across the region. Yarra Valley Permaculture runs the Community Harvest Project, which within three months has received large community support.

Permaculture and organics are considered in more of a conceptual fashion to self sufficiency in the next section.
